Frequently Asked Impounded Vehicles Questions
Q: Does it matter how
long I leave my vehicle at North Bay Tow, Inc.?
Yes. Fees are assessed daily. To minimize your
costs, please arrange to pick-up your vehicle as soon as
possible. Call for daily fees and carefully follow instructions
for retrieving your vehicle. Furthermore, after a set period of
time (approximately 30 days depending on the value of the
vehicle), it becomes at risk to be sold at lien sale (contact
our office for the specific time line for your vehicle).
Q: What happens if I
don't retrieve my vehicle in time?
If you are unable to pick up your vehicle within
the set time before the lien sale ends, you can do nothing and
leave your vehicle. We will attempt to sell it and recover the
towing and storage fees. If the vehicle does not sell, or the
sale price does not cover the fees, we will begin collection
proceedings to recover the remaining balance.
Q: What if I'm not the
vehicle's registered owner?
If you are not the registered owner, you must
have the registered owner come into our office with you.
NOTE: A vehicle stored in our impound lot
will only be released to the legal and/or
registered owner. The exception to this rule would be when the
legal and/or registered owner’s actual
presence is unlikely due to a limited list of reason’s that may,
or may not, be limited to:
A. - Hospitalized due to Illness or Injury
B. - Located in another City, State or Country
of considerable traveling distance from the location of our main
office.
C. - Imprisoned in a Local Jail, State or
Federal Detention Facility
In the event that one of the
three above scenarios exist, a "VEHICLE
RELEASE FORM" would be required to be
completed and notarized by a legally commissioned Notary
Public. Said form can be obtained from this website by clicking
on the link above, or can be faxed by calling our office at
(707) 446-3345.
In the case where the legal and/or registered owner has been
judged to be “mentally incompetent” by a signed
court order, a copy of such court order accompanied by a valid
and/or legal “power-of-attorney” instrument
will be required for presentation at the time of vehicle
release.
In the case where the legal and/or registered owner is "deceased",
then a valid/legal “death certificate” will be
required for presentation at the time of vehicle release, in
addition to documents providing proof that the person the
vehicle is being released to is the "executor" of the estate of
the legal and/or registered owner of the vehicle being released,
or any legal and binding document(s) that can establish that the
person claiming such a vehicle has a legal right to take
possession of same.
